Who's going to Midstate Massive Ultra Trail?

Free. You can start with nothing.

Free, and always will be. NavRun makes money from race-day planning for runners who want it, never from this. Ultras change constantly, sometimes the morning of. Always confirm with the race director and the official website before you rely on anything here.

The 100 Mile Midstate Massive begins at the former site of Windblown Cross Country Ski Area in New Ipswich, NH. The first 30 miles are technical, rocky trail with a large share of the course's total climbing and views from Mt. Watatic and Wachusett Mountain. The middle of the course runs through Princeton and the Savage Hill Wildlife Management Area to the 50 Mile start at the Long Pond Boat Ramp in Rutland. The final ~40 miles carry more road sections before a technical, rocky finish through Douglas State Forest, rounding the Massachusetts/Connecticut/Rhode Island tri-state marker to the finish on the shore of Lake Wallum.

Trail / Dirt road: ~78 miles. Paved Road: ~22 miles (majority after mile 60). The first 30 miles are technical, rocky trail with the bulk of the course's elevation, crossing Mt. Watatic and Wachusett Mountain. Road sections become more frequent in the last 40 miles, with a final ~14 miles of mostly technical, rocky terrain through Douglas State Forest to the finish.

The race

What this one is

The Midstate Massive Ultra Trail is a point to point ultramarathon that follows the Massachusetts Midstate Trail during the peak of New England's autumn foliage, crossing from New Hampshire down through central Massachusetts to the Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island tri-state corner. The race offers 100 mile, 50 mile and 50K distances, all finishing together at Douglas State Forest.

New England Race Events launched the Midstate Massive Ultra Trail in 2019. The idea was introduced to race director Rich Mazzola by TMIRCE co-founder Andy Marx, based on the Fastest Known Time set on a self-supported traverse of the Midstate Trail by Greg Soutiea, Jake Dissinger and Chad Hornbaker in 2015 (23 hours, 43 minutes). The 2026 running is the race's 8th edition.

Cutoff philosophy
Wave starts are what make this race possible. We start runners slowest to fastest for both the 100 and 50M events to minimize the impact to the trail and to ensure on-course support throughout each race. Aid Station cutoff times are based on this model. ... Final Aid Station 15 cutoff is 3:30 pm with 3.5 miles to the finish line. The course and Finish Line will be closed by 5:00 pm. newenglandraceevents.com

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
