Community Rules

The short version

Say the thing you would say if you were standing at the next aid station at two in the morning. That is it. That is the rule.

Most of what gets sent here is somebody's mum saying she is proud, or a friend saying the climb ends soon. You do not need a guide for that. The rest of this page is for the rare case where somebody uses the room to hurt the person in it.

What is not allowed

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour here. None. That means no:

• Abuse, harassment, threats, or anything meant to frighten or humiliate someone
• Hate directed at anyone for who they are
• Sexual content, or anything you would not want a stranger to hear out loud
• Sharing someone's private information, including where they live or how to find them
• Pretending to be someone you are not
• Anything illegal, and anything encouraging someone to hurt themselves
• Advertising, spam, or messages sent to a stranger's session because you found the link

A live link is often forwarded, so a room can end up holding people the runner never sent it to. If you found your way in, the rules are the same for you.

What we do about it

Report a message and it comes down straight away, before anyone has read or listened to it. It does not sit there waiting for us to get to it.

Then a person looks at it, as fast as we can. If it breaks these rules it stays down, and we block them from that runner's sessions. Blocking works on the device somebody sent from, so a determined person can come back from a fresh phone or a different browser. That is why turning the link off is always yours to use, and why it is the surer stop of the two. Serious cases end the account behind it.

The runner is never the one who has to argue about it. There is a button in the app called Turn the link off, and it closes the room to everybody at once, including anyone the link was forwarded to. Your tracking keeps going, so shutting a link does not mean shutting down the thing keeping you company. Ending the session closes the link too.

How to report something

Email me. You do not need a NavRun account, and you do not need to explain yourself carefully. Send the share link and roughly when the message came in, and that is enough to find it.

If you are the runner

You decide who gets the link, and you can shut it off whenever you want. Turn the link off sits on the Out Here screen next to Share your link. Tap it and the page stops opening for everyone holding it, including anyone it was forwarded to, and your own tracking carries on. You can share a new link straight after. Ending the session closes the link as well, and so does the 48 hour cap, whichever comes first.

You are also responsible for what you send. The people following you are trusting you with their voices, and you do not always know who is in the room at the other end. If a message needs taking down, or a name needs removing, that is what [email protected] is for.
