An overnight start at 8:30 pm on Friday, so every runner covers the same 7h12m of darkness. Tackle Mount McKirdy by headlamp, find yourself on Swift Mountain for daybreak, then crest McKirdy's lower ridge a second time in the late day sun. The 2027 100 km is a Western States 100 qualifier: finishers within the cutoff are entered into the lottery for the 2028 race.

The race

What this one is

A mountain running weekend in Valemount, BC, in the Robson Valley, with 38 km, 65 km and 100 km races that start and finish at Whiskeyfill Farm. The routes climb Swift Mountain and Mount McKirdy and top out above 2300 m, with views over Mount Robson. The 100 km starts at 8:30 pm on Friday, so every runner spends the same hours in the dark.

The 2025 edition offered 35 km, 60 km and 100 km races. The 2026 edition ran 38 km, 65 km and 100 km, and the entry list filled in under five hours. The 2027 100 km has been named a qualifying race for the 2028 Western States 100.

Crew rules
Crew access is very limited. Driving to a listed non-crew access point will get your runner disqualified. No parking in the bike park lots below McKirdy, and no access on the McKirdy side. Swift is the only crew access point, and crew can see their runner there twice (35.5 km and 64 km). The road is 1 km of gravel followed by a 500 m hike in; you do not need a truck. No vehicles are allowed up the Swift Mountain road past the aid station. trailrunning.ca
Pacer rules
Pacers are not allowed at any Coast Mountain Trail Running race. trailrunning.ca
Drop bag rules
100 km runners have two drop bags, each reachable twice: Turducken (24.5 km), Swift (35.5 km), Swift (64 km) and Turducken (73 km). All 100 km drop bags must be dropped off at bib pickup at the Best Western Plus before 7:00 pm Friday. Keep bags to about the size of a shoe box, a shoe bag or a small backpack. Bags not claimed by the end of Sunday are donated or disposed of. trailrunning.ca
Cutoff philosophy
All races conclude at 9pm Saturday night. trailrunning.ca

Swift

Starting at the "Welcome to Valemount" sign at the traffic lights in town, facing the highway, zero your ODO. Head right towards Jasper on HWY 5. Turn right on Loseth Road 1.2km from the main traffic lights in Valemount. You'll be turning at the "iRVin's RV Park & Campground" and keeping it on your right as you drive down Loseth Road. Stay on Loseth Road for 1.5km as it transitions from pavement to gravel. Turn right at the UNCONTROLLED railway crossing. Please proceed with caution. After crossing the rail line, follow the Swift Mainline FSR with a slight right heading uphill. (Hiker and Staging area signs). Cross the train tracks and follow signage for "Swift Mountain". Stay left at the one fork in the road. Drive for 1km to the Swift Mountain Crew Parking area which will be managed by volunteers. Crew access involves a short walk of about 500 meters. DO NOT PROCEED PAST THE PARKING AREA. No vehicles are allowed up the Swift Mtn FSR past our crew access aid station. If you drop a pin at this location, Google Maps will show a "shortcut" from in town. That shortcut is a 4x4 high clearance only service road that sees no maintenance. Following these directions allows all vehicles to easily access the Swift Mountain aid station with no need for 4x4 and no need for a high clearance vehicle.

Parking. Swift Mountain Crew Parking area, managed by volunteers, 1 km up the gravel Swift Mainline FSR from the railway crossing. About a 500 m walk to the aid station. No parking in the bike park lots below McKirdy.

What it looks like out there

Somebody has been out there with a camera the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.

3 people have been out there with a camera or a microphone.

These are other people's work and we link straight to them. Watching costs nothing and needs no account. More of them: every race we hold, on film.

What you know every one of these is read by a person before it changes anything

Ran this race? Tell the next runner what you know.

Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.

Leave blank if it applies to the whole race.

Leave blank if it is not about one particular stop.

Optional. Something like “Cal Street, mile 62 to 78”.

Write it the way you would say it to someone at the start line.

Optional, and it decides nothing. It only tells the next runner where this is coming from.

This changes nothing on the page on its own. Somebody checks it against the race first.

Optional. Filled in for you when you start from a specific line on the page.

Copy it as it appears, so we can find it.

Required. Where it came from: the race email, the runner manual, what you saw on the day.

Somebody watches it before it goes anywhere near this page. What we are after is footage of this course, on the ground. If it would be just as true of any other race, it is not this.

Required. A line is plenty. Where the climbs are, what the footing does, what the last twenty miles look like.

We read every one of these and we write back. Every fact here carries the source it came from, and the way a wrong one gets fixed is a person checking it against what you tell us.

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
