The race

What this one is

Sedona Canyons 125 runs 125 miles from the Gold King Mine Ghost Town above Jerome, Arizona, to Heritage Square in downtown Flagstaff. It drops off the Black Hills into the Verde Valley, wades the Verde River knee-deep in the first ten miles, then turns north on a long run of single-track through Sedona's red rock canyons and around Airport Mesa. From Sedona the course climbs Schnebly Hill onto the Coconino Plateau and crosses ponderosa pine forest and the Flagstaff Urban Trail System to the finish. Aravaipa Running runs it in May over the same week as the Cocodona 250, on the northern half of that course, and gives runners 75 hours.

Aravaipa Running added the Sedona Canyons 125 in 2023, the year the Cocodona 250 course settled into the route it still runs, and built it on the northern half of that route, from Jerome to Flagstaff. Sixty-five runners started the first one and fifty-two finished. In 2026, 372 started and 269 finished.

Crew rules
Crew may only help their runner within a quarter-mile of crew access aid stations. One crew vehicle per runner at aid stations, none over 25 feet, none towing trailers. Crew and inactive pacers may not eat or drink from aid stations. A runner is responsible for what their crew does, and a crew rule broken can mean a disqualification. docs.google.com
Pacer rules
Pacers must be human, on foot and at least 18. They check in at the aid station where they start running, sign a pacer waiver and get a pacer bib. Pacers may not carry gear, food or water for the runner. Pacers enter and leave the course only at crew accessible aid stations, and are checked for required gear and cold weather gear. Pacers are welcome at aid stations only while they are pacing. docs.google.com
Drop bag rules
Label each bag with your bib number and the aid station name; do not write your name or the aid station mileage. Bags can be no larger than 60 liters. Sedona Canyons 125 runners can drop bags only at the start line on race morning, and can also leave a bag that goes directly to the finish line. Drop bags are for runners only. After using a bag, move it to the used drop bag pile. docs.google.com

What it looks like out there

Somebody has been out there with a camera the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.

19 people have been out there with a camera or a microphone.

+ 11 more.

These are other people's work and we link straight to them. Watching costs nothing and needs no account. More of them: every race we hold, on film.

Ran this race? Tell the next runner what you know.

Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.

Leave blank if it applies to the whole race.

Leave blank if it is not about one particular stop.

Optional. Something like “Cal Street, mile 62 to 78”.

Write it the way you would say it to someone at the start line.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
