Who's going to Pine Trail Run?

Free. You can start with nothing.

Free, and always will be. NavRun makes money from race-day planning for runners who want it, never from this. Ultras change constantly, sometimes the morning of. Always confirm with the race director and the official website before you rely on anything here.

The course

Where it goes lollipop · 4 aid stations · rust marks a stop your crew can reach

A lollipop route starting at the Pine Trailhead on the Highline and Arizona Trail, climbing the Mogollon Rim to Milk Ranch Point Road, then dropping back down Pine Canyon to finish at the barn. Four aid stations.

Many miles of remote, rugged, rocky, technical single-track, with a steep ascent and descent of the Mogollon Rim and gradients up to about 1,500 feet per mile. Aid Station #4 is remote with no vehicle access.

The race

What this one is

A trail race in Pine, Arizona with a 6K, a 10 mile and a 50K along the Mogollon Rim, mostly on trails built and maintained by the local trail crew and the Arizona Trail Association. All three finish at the Pine Strawberry Fuel Reduction barn, and the race raises money for wildfire prevention and trail work in Pine and Strawberry.

Crew rules
Crews and their vehicles are allowed at Aid Stations #1 and #3 only. Crews are not allowed at Aid Stations #2 and #4, and may not drive on Milk Ranch Point Road (Forest Road 218 and 218A) or the runner may be disqualified. Aid from anyone other than another competitor away from the aid stations means disqualification. psfuelreduction.org
Pacer rules
Runners are not allowed to have pacers run with them in the 50K race. psfuelreduction.org
Drop bag rules
There is a gear drop at the starting line. Drop bags can be transported to Aid Stations #1, #2 or #3, each with its own drop area. Put your bib number on each bag. Aid Station #4 has no drop bags. Bags left at a station when it closes are taken to the barn. psfuelreduction.org
Cutoff philosophy
There are time limits to leave each aid station and a finishing time limit. If you do not leave an aid station by its cut-off time, you will be asked to stop and not continue on the course. psfuelreduction.org

Aid Station #1 Geronimo Trailhead cutoff 10:00am

From the race parking area or the Pine Trailhead, go south on Highway 87 for about 2 miles. Turn left on Control Road (Forest Road 64). Go approximately 5.5 miles, and turn left on FR 440 (just past the concrete bridge). Go about 2 miles. The Geronimo Trailhead is on the right. There should be room to park vehicles along FR 440 prior to (south of) the Trailhead location.

psfuelreduction.org
Aid Station #3 General Crook Trailhead cutoff 3:00pm

From Aid Station #1, go back the way you came (FR 440 and FR 64) to Highway 87. Turn right (north) on Highway 87 and go back through the town of Pine. Continue north past Strawberry and up onto the Mogollon Rim until you pass the junction of Highways 87 and 260, about 11 miles from Pine. Continue north on Highway 87 for 1.2 miles past the 260 junction. Where the highway makes a swooping curve to the left, approximately .7 miles past mile marker 279, turn right onto FR 6038, a minor dirt road (look for the aid station popup just inside the fence). There is no sign on Highway 87 at this junction. Wait for an aid station volunteer to open the gate for you.

What it looks like out there

Somebody has been out there with a camera the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.

2 people have been out there with a camera or a microphone.

These are other people's work and we link straight to them. Watching costs nothing and needs no account. More of them: every race we hold, on film.

What you know every one of these is read by a person before it changes anything

Ran this race? Tell the next runner what you know.

Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.

Leave blank if it applies to the whole race.

Leave blank if it is not about one particular stop.

Optional. Something like “Cal Street, mile 62 to 78”.

Write it the way you would say it to someone at the start line.

Optional, and it decides nothing. It only tells the next runner where this is coming from.

This changes nothing on the page on its own. Somebody checks it against the race first.

Optional. Filled in for you when you start from a specific line on the page.

Copy it as it appears, so we can find it.

Required. Where it came from: the race email, the runner manual, what you saw on the day.

Somebody watches it before it goes anywhere near this page. What we are after is footage of this course, on the ground. If it would be just as true of any other race, it is not this.

Required. A line is plenty. Where the climbs are, what the footing does, what the last twenty miles look like.

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
