One loop around the Massanuttens from the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds. The first six miles run through historic Woodstock to the Shenandoah River at Burnshire Dam, then climb a steep gravel switchback to Woodstock Gap and drop into Fort Valley. Country roads lead to Four Points at about 32.5, then the trail climbs to the 675 Overlook and into Duncan Hollow, the highest ground of the day, usually met in mid-day sun. Crisman Hollow leads back to Four Points and up Moreland Gap to Edinburg Gap at 55 miles. Eight miles of Powell Mountain ATV trail follow, over Opechee Peak, then five gravel miles up Woodstock Mountain to Mudhole Gap and a mile of trail that crosses Little Passage Creek five times, into Elizabeth Furnace at 74.95 miles. Three trail miles over Sherman Gap come next, then the wagon road up Veach Gap and down the boulder falls on the west side, most of it in the dark. From there it is country roads around the Massanuttens, back over Woodstock Mountain and through town to the finish.
The race puts the course at 62% dirt and gravel roads, 22% trails and single track, and 16% paved roads, and says it is not solely a trail race or a road race. The eight miles out of Edinburg Gap onto Powell Mountain are a heavily used ATV route, and the climb over Opechee Peak is rugged and steep. Weather does a lot of the work here: the first weekend in June is traditionally hot and humid, past years have run from very dry and exposed to mud filled, and the race warns there are usually plenty of horse flies to go around.
The Old Dominion 100 is a 100-mile loop from the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds in Woodstock, Virginia, first run in 1979 and held on the first weekend in June. It leaves town through historic Woodstock, climbs into the Massanutten Mountains and circles Fort Valley on pavement, gravel forest roads, ATV trails and singletrack, with about 14,000 feet of gain. The start is 4 a.m. Runners who come in under 24 hours earn a sterling silver buckle, and there are 28 hours to finish. The race puts it as you, the clock, and the course, and it is run entirely by volunteers with no sponsors.
The run was started in 1979 by Pat and Wayne Botts, as a running division of the Old Dominion 100 Mile Ride, to give East Coast runners a chance to cover 100 miles in under 24 hours. In 1979 and 1980 it began and ended at Morven Park in Leesburg, Virginia, and 45 runners paid a $25 entry fee for the first one. It moved to Front Royal in 1981 and to Fort Valley in 1992. Tom Green's finish here in 1986 was the first leg of the first Grand Slam of Ultrarunning. The run separated from the horse ride in 1991, and the limits were set then to 24 hours for a buckle and 28 hours to finish. The race took a sabbatical year in 2002 and was cancelled in 2020, and it rejoined the Grand Slam in 2017. Eric Clifton's 15:10 from 1992 and Janice Anderson's 18:25:48 from 1997 are both still the course records.

These are other people's work and we link straight to them. Watching costs nothing and needs no account. More of them: every race we hold, on film.
Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.
This changes nothing on the page on its own. Somebody checks it against the race first.
Somebody watches it before it goes anywhere near this page. What we are after is footage of this course, on the ground. If it would be just as true of any other race, it is not this.
We want the address of the file the race publishes, not the file. We download it from there so the page can say where the line came from.
We read every one of these and we write back. Every fact here carries the source it came from, and the way a wrong one gets fixed is a person checking it against what you tell us.
NavRun builds your pacing from your own training, then turns it into a plan your crew can follow: when to leave and where to park.
