The course

Where it goes multi-loop · 9 aid stations

No official GPX on file yet. These are the aid station coordinates, not the trail. Have the GPX? Send us the link.

Two laps of the loop through Norris Dam State Park and the Norris Municipal Watershed, out and back from the pavilion near the Tea Room. The race's own course map puts the whole thing at 31.37 miles. Halfway is back at the start, and that is where you decide, and where the race decides, whether you head out for the second lap.

Single track trails and jeep roads across both Norris Dam State Park and the Norris Municipal Watershed. The race's own elevation profile for the 50k is plotted on an axis running from 820 to 1,480 feet above sea level. Runners know one climb by name: Butt Slide, which is also where one of the two aid stations sits.

The race

What this one is

A 50k and a 25k on single track trails and jeep roads through Norris Dam State Park and the Norris Municipal Watershed in East Tennessee. Both races leave from the pavilion near the Tea Room and run the same loop, one lap for the 25k and two for the 50k. The Knoxville Track Club has been putting it on as part of its Treadin' Trodden Trails season for well over a decade, and the aid stations sit on roads, so the people who came to support a runner can reach them.

Cutoff philosophy
Nine hours for the 50k. To head out for the second lap you need to have reached halfway and left that aid station inside four hours. A sweeper travels with the back of the field, and the race asks everyone to keep moving quicker than 18 minutes a mile, so that its volunteers are not out in the woods far longer than they should have to be. runsignup.com

What it looks like out there

Somebody has been out there with a camera the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.

2 people have been out there with a camera or a microphone.

These are other people's work and we link straight to them. Watching costs nothing and needs no account. More of them: every race we hold, on film.

Ran this race? Tell the next runner what you know.

Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.

Leave blank if it applies to the whole race.

Leave blank if it is not about one particular stop.

Optional. Something like “Cal Street, mile 62 to 78”.

Write it the way you would say it to someone at the start line.

Optional, and it decides nothing. It only tells the next runner where this is coming from.

This changes nothing on the page on its own. Somebody checks it against the race first.

Somebody watches it before it goes anywhere near this page. What we are after is footage of this course, on the ground. If it would be just as true of any other race, it is not this.
