The course

Where it goes out and back · 16 aid stations

Course line from the race's own GPX. Source file.

Point-to-point-style out-and-back course on the Pacific Crest Trail south of Olallie Lake: a ~12-mile loop out of Olallie Lake, then an out-and-back to the Clackamas Ranger Station / Timothy Lake Dam area (with Pinheads, Warm Springs, Red Wolf, Clackamas and Little Crater Lake aid stations each visited twice, outbound and again on the return), then a final leg via Olallie Meadows back to the Olallie Lake finish.

Officially branded "Mountain Lakes 100" but the race states the actual course is 101 miles ("This race is 101 miles ... Trust us, you'll run 101 miles"); the aid-station chart's own cumulative distance to the finish is 101.3 mi, which is what is recorded as both published and canonical distance here. 96 of the 101 miles are single-track, 5 miles jeep/gravel road. Course shape does not cleanly fit one option in the schema's course_type list: it starts with a ~12-mile loop back to Olallie Lake, then is a true out-and-back to Clackamas/the Dam (aid stations Pinheads, Warm Springs, Red Wolf, Clackamas and Little Crater Lake are each visited twice, at different cumulative miles, distinguished only by aid_station.sequence, same pattern as Javelina's out_and_back), and then finishes via a different final segment through Olallie Meadows rather than retracing the opening loop. Recorded as out_and_back because that is the dominant, defining structure (recurring stations); loop_count/loop_distance_miles are left null as undefined by that format. Earphones are allowed but restricted to one ear only (Go Beyond Racing rules, race-wide).

The race

What this one is

A 101-mile point-to-point-and-back style ultramarathon on the Pacific Crest Trail south of Olallie Lake, Oregon, starting and finishing at Olallie Lake Resort and running between Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Hood.

The Olallie Lake start/finish area was burned in the 2020 Lionshead Fire and was unavailable for the 2021 and 2022 editions, which used a different venue; the race returned to Olallie Lake for a modified loop of the original route in 2023.
