The course

Where it goes point to point · 9 aid stations

Course line from the race's own GPX. Source file. Recorded 2026.

A point-to-point 50 miler along the Knobstone Trail, Indiana's longest footpath, running north from Deam Lake State Recreation Area to Delaney Creek Park. Runners check in and out at every aid station, and aid stations cannot be skipped.

Steep ascents, technical descents and relentless rolling hills, over rocky ridges, dense hardwood forest and narrow winding paths. Expect exposed ridgelines with sweeping views and shaded valleys with multiple creek crossings. The descents can be slippery in wet conditions.

The race

What this one is

A point-to-point 50 miler along the Knobstone Trail, Indiana's longest footpath, often called "The Little AT" for its steep, hilly landscape. It runs north from Deam Lake State Recreation Area in Borden to Delaney Creek Park in Scottsburg, with steep climbs, ridgeline views and forested valleys. Finishers etch their name on the Finisher Slab, a piece of live edge wood made for each year of the race.

Crew rules
Crew are welcome at Leota (25.6), Elk Creek (32.8), Oxley (38.2), and Spurgeon (44.4). Crews must park in the designated parking lots or along the access roads leading up to them, and must not block the roads. Runners may only receive aid at designated aid stations, and that includes aid from crew. trailblazerrunning.co
Pacer rules
Pacers may join their runners at Elk Creek, Oxley and Spurgeon only (not Leota). Pacers must be registered at bib pickup, fill out a participant waiver, enter and exit the course at pacer designated aid stations, and wear a pacer bib while on course. Pacers are not allowed drop bags. trailblazerrunning.co
Drop bag rules
Runners may provide up to five on course drop bags, and one for the finish area, one per aid station. Drop bags go in at bib pickup Friday evening and Saturday morning. Label each with name, bib number and aid station. A small duffel or dry bag of no more than 10L is ideal. No large duffle bags, garbage bags, paper bags, suitcases, rigid plastic bins, ice chests or coolers, and no perishable items or glass bottles. trailblazerrunning.co
Cutoff philosophy
Race cutoffs exist for several reasons, primarily safety, keeping the race on schedule, and out of respect for our volunteer's time. trailblazerrunning.co

What it looks like out there

Somebody has been out there with a camera the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.

4 people have been out there with a camera or a microphone.

These are other people's work and we link straight to them. Watching costs nothing and needs no account. More of them: every race we hold, on film.

Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.

Leave blank if it applies to the whole race.

Leave blank if it is not about one particular stop.

Optional. Something like “Cal Street, mile 62 to 78”.

Write it the way you would say it to someone at the start line.

Optional, and it decides nothing. It only tells the next runner where this is coming from.

This changes nothing on the page on its own. Somebody checks it against the race first.

Somebody watches it before it goes anywhere near this page. What we are after is footage of this course, on the ground. If it would be just as true of any other race, it is not this.

We read every one of these and we write back. Every fact here carries the source it came from, and the way a wrong one gets fixed is a person checking it against what you tell us.

Required, because this is a conversation and we write back.

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
