A single 100 mile loop that starts and ends at the Belmont Mine in Butte, Montana, and includes 63 miles of the Continental Divide Trail. The 2027 Copper Kings 100 will be an official qualifier for the 2028 Western States Endurance Run.

Most of the runners who have run this course have said it is harder than it looks. The elevation gain is concentrated between the first aid station and the last aid station. Most of the time you are more than 6,500 feet above sea level, and the longest segment between aid stations is over 17 miles.

Crew rules
Each runner's crew is limited to one vehicle. No crew vehicles over 26 feet in length allowed at aid stations. No vehicles towing trailers allowed at aid stations. No crew allowed at Pipestone (mile 36.8) or Our Lady of the Rockies (mile 58.6). No aid or assistance from crew is allowed other than at designated crew-accessible aid stations. ck100.notion.site
Pacer rules
Pacers are allowed starting at mile 46.3 (Homestake). Pacers cannot stop at Our Lady of the Rockies (mile 58.6), so a pacer who starts at Homestake continues to Nez Perce (mile 76.3) at minimum. Runners may have one pacer at a time. Pacers must stay with their runner. Bikes, e-bikes, and similar devices are not allowed. Runners must carry all their own gear, with no muling by pacers. All pacers complete a pacer waiver and wear a pacer bib. ck100.notion.site
Drop bag rules
Drop bags are permitted at all eight aid stations. Basin Creek (mile 12.1) drop bags automatically move to Moulton (mile 89.9); this is the only drop bag that moves. As each aid station closes, drop bags are returned to race headquarters at the start/finish line. ck100.notion.site
Cutoff philosophy
The 40 hour cutoff wasn't established because you need that much time, we set this cutoff to give back of the pack runners more time to complete the loop. onwardendurance.com

Driving your crew

Getting your people there 7 stops with directions the race published.

Basin Creek mile 12.10

From the start drive south through town on Harrison Ave. Harrison eventually becomes Basin Creek Road, which eventually dead ends at the parking lot we'll use for our first crew stop. Please be careful driving along Basin Creek Road, this is the same route the runners will be on.

ck100.notion.site
Highland mile 25.00

Head back north toward town, then turn right on on MT 2. Follow MT 2 through Thompson Park, then just after the Lions Den trailhead, stay right and get off MT 2. The paved road will become gravel and there will be areas with little to no service.

ck100.notion.site
Homestake mile 46.30

Get onto Interstate 90 heading East towards Bozeman, then take Exit 233. Turn left onto Homestake Pass and cross over Interstate 90, then turn right onto the driveway to "Event Parking". This is not the main trailhead parking. Drive carefully when entering and leaving the aid station and watch for runners.

ck100.notion.site
Nez Perce mile 76.30

Drive north on Interstate 15 out of Butte toward Helena, then take exit 138. Take a left to drive under the freeway, then just after the southbound onramp, turn left into the maintenance yard. Drive carefully after exiting Interstate 15, the road is the course. Nez Perce Road is narrow. Drive slowly and watch for runners.

ck100.notion.site
Konda mile 80.80

Carefully drive back out of the trail head watching for runners and other drivers. When you're back on pavement drive under Interstate 15 and follow the road to the Kinda Trailhead.

ck100.notion.site
Moulton mile 89.90

Drive East back to the interstate, then head south on I 15 to return to Butte. Drive north through Butte and Walkerville, finally getting onto a dirt road that leads to the parking lot at Moulton Reservoir. Drive carefully along Moulton Reservoir Road. The road is the course so keep the runners safe.

What it looks like out there

Somebody has been out there with a camera the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.

2 people have been out there with a camera or a microphone.

These are other people's work and we link straight to them. Watching costs nothing and needs no account. More of them: every race we hold, on film.

Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.

Leave blank if it applies to the whole race.

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
