The Back Half 50 Mile starts at 6:00PM as a night race. Runners head south on the towpath for 25 miles, turn around, and run back to the finish in Akron.
The race gives the elevation gain for the Back Half 50 Mile as approximately 790 feet. The towpath is a crushed limestone trail that occasionally yields to asphalt or concrete walkway, roughly 70% crushed limestone to 30% asphalt.
A fast, flat ultra on the Ohio & Erie Canalway towpath, starting and finishing at Missing Falls Brewery in downtown Akron, Ohio. The 100 Mile is joined in 2026 by two 50 Mile options: a Front Half that starts at 7:00AM and a Back Half that starts at 6:00PM. The towpath is mostly crushed limestone with some asphalt and concrete.
The 2026 race was the 10th annual Canal Corridor Endurance Run, and the 50 Mile options were new that year. Construction and closures have changed the route over the years, and the race says it has never been able to run the same course twice.
