Who's going to Appalachian 200 / 100?

Free. You can start with nothing.

Free, and always will be. NavRun makes money from race-day planning for runners who want it, never from this. Ultras change constantly, sometimes the morning of. Always confirm with the race director and the official website before you rely on anything here.

The course

Where it goes point to point · 20 aid stations

Course line from the race's own GPX. Source file. Year of this file not known.

Point to point from Jones Gap State Park, SC, through North Carolina and Georgia, finishing in Franklin, NC on the Little Tennessee River Greenway. The first 100 miles are the 100 mile course. It uses the Foothills, Palmetto and Bartram trails.

Rocky, rooty and technical trail for most of the race. No massive 2000 ft climbs until the last 50 miles. Not much flat except the last 12 or so miles, almost entirely paved. No water sources after Pinnacle Knob. Little to no cell service for long stretches. A free race shuttle skips a wilderness study area near Hale Ridge Rd around mile 175, and the clock keeps running.

Crew rules
Crew only at crew access aid stations, within 1200 ft. No crew or pacer vehicles over 24 ft, no RVs or pull-behind campers. Rule breaks can mean disqualification and a ban from all future Run Bum Races. Hikers and day users have priority over crews at trailheads. Crew access points: Sassafras (shuttle, $25 per person), Camp Wesleyan, Camp Thornwell, Bad Creek, Upper Whitewater Falls (specific hours, parking fee), Sloan Bridge and Fish Hatchery Rd (split between runners), Cherry Hill, Willis Knob, Bob Gap and Warwoman Dell (split between runners), Wilson Gap (high clearance 4x4), Jones Gap. No crew pickup or drop-off at the mid-race Hale Ridge shuttle for the time being. docs.google.com
Pacer rules
One pacer at a time, from about mile 60. Pacers must sign a waiver online, carry all mandatory gear, and have the GPX. They may not mule. Pacers follow the same vehicle rules as crew. Up to 3 people may run along the Little Tennessee River Greenway with a runner. docs.google.com
Drop bag rules
Handbook lists drop bags at Sassafras (23 and 54), Bad Creek (96), Cherry Hill (117), Warwoman (158) and Scaly Mountain (172). Small bags only, labeled with location, name and bib number. Bring them to packet pickup. Bags are brought back to the finish Sunday; held until Monday afternoon, then disposed of or donated. Nothing is mailed. docs.google.com
Cutoff philosophy
All cutoff times are for LEAVING the aid stations, not getting to them. Individual aid station cutoffs are still to come. docs.google.com

What you know every one of these is read by a person before it changes anything

Ran this race? Tell the next runner what you know.

Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.

Leave blank if it applies to the whole race.

Leave blank if it is not about one particular stop.

Optional. Something like “Cal Street, mile 62 to 78”.

Write it the way you would say it to someone at the start line.

Optional, and it decides nothing. It only tells the next runner where this is coming from.

This changes nothing on the page on its own. Somebody checks it against the race first.

Optional. Filled in for you when you start from a specific line on the page.

Copy it as it appears, so we can find it.

Required. Where it came from: the race email, the runner manual, what you saw on the day.

Somebody watches it before it goes anywhere near this page. What we are after is footage of this course, on the ground. If it would be just as true of any other race, it is not this.

We read every one of these and we write back. Every fact here carries the source it came from, and the way a wrong one gets fixed is a person checking it against what you tell us.

Required, because this is a conversation and we write back.

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
