Starts and finishes at the Cuchara Yacht Club. Runs the Spring Creek, Short Cut and Baker Creek trails to the Cuchara Ski Resort, then the Dike Trail back to town.

Trail crossings, a road crossing on Highway 12 with a volunteer, and a final short, steep climb on the Dike Trail to the high point of the 8 mile course. Runners meet two way traffic with the 50K runners near Spring Creek and make a different turn from them.

What this one is

A trail race weekend in the Cuchara Valley of southern Colorado, run below the Spanish Peaks and paired with the Oktoberfest in La Veta and Cuchara. A 50K, a Heavy Half Marathon and an 8ish mile all finish at the Cuchara Yacht Club.

The Ute, Comanche, Apache and earlier Native American tribes held the Spanish Peaks in religious awe and named the mountains Wahatoya.
