Who's going to SRT - Shawangunk Ridge Trail Run?

Free. You can start with nothing.

Free, and always will be. NavRun makes money from race-day planning for runners who want it, never from this. Ultras change constantly, sometimes the morning of. Always confirm with the race director and the official website before you rely on anything here.

Point to point along the whole Shawangunk Ridge Trail, from High Point Monument in High Point State Park, NJ to the finish just beyond the railroad trestle in Rosendale, NY. Starts Friday evening and runs through the night. Unsupported: no aid, crew, pacers or drop bags.

Rugged hiking trail over a wide variety of terrain. Some sections are rocky with difficult footing, squeezes or scrambles. Shawangunk conglomerate grips when dry and gets very slippery when wet; a few spots have moderate exposure, and roots and rocks make ankle sprains easy. Bear, porcupines, fishers, bobcats and timber rattlesnakes live in the area. Most common wrong turn: the left from Old Minnewaska Trail onto Undivided Lot Trail in Mohonk Preserve, about 1 mile past checkpoint #5. The race says the 70 is only for seasoned trail runners and historically sees about half the field not finish; roads are crossed at night, so watch for traffic.

The race

What this one is

A point-to-point run and hike along the Shawangunk Ridge Trail in New York and New Jersey, finishing at the railroad trestle in Rosendale. Three divisions start at three different places: 70 miles from High Point Monument on Friday evening, 30 miles from Sam's Point and a half marathon from Peter's Kill on Saturday. It is unsupported: no aid stations, crew, pacers or drop bags, only volunteer checkpoints that write down your bib. Runners carry their own food and water filter and follow the trail's blazes. Cut-offs are generous for the 30 and half marathon, which are open to fast hikers.

What it looks like out there

Somebody has been out there with a camera the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.

One person has been out there with a camera or a microphone.

These are other people's work and we link straight to them. Watching costs nothing and needs no account. More of them: every race we hold, on film.

Ran this race? Tell the next runner what you know.

Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.

Leave blank if it applies to the whole race.

Leave blank if it is not about one particular stop.

Optional. Something like “Cal Street, mile 62 to 78”.

Write it the way you would say it to someone at the start line.

Optional, and it decides nothing. It only tells the next runner where this is coming from.

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
