Who's going to Siuslaw Dunes?

Free. You can start with nothing.

Free, and always will be. NavRun makes money from race-day planning for runners who want it, never from this. Ultras change constantly, sometimes the morning of. Always confirm with the race director and the official website before you rely on anything here.

The course

Where it goes point to point · 6 aid stations · rust marks a stop your crew can reach

Course line from the race's own GPX. Source file. Year of this file not known.

A mostly point-to-point 50K from Waxmyrtle Campground to Honeyman State Park, past ocean beach, forested singletrack, open dunes and riverside estuary, with a loop and a creek crossing in the middle.

Terrain alternates continuously: beach, sandy trail, open dunes and forested singletrack. Sand is firmer after steady rain and looser after dry or windy weather. Most of the climbing is in the forested loop between aid stations 1 and 2, and the rolling open dunes between aid stations 3 and 4 add more. Runners cross Tahkenitch Creek by volunteer SUP ferry or by wading. Two beach segments run along the ocean: keep an eye on the water, never turn your back on it, and stay away from logs on the beach or in the surf.

The race

What this one is

Point-to-point trail races through the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, staged at Honeyman State Park just south of Florence, Oregon. The 50K, 20 Miler and 12K cross open sand dunes with tree islands, old growth coastal forest, stream fords and remote ocean beaches, and finish at East Woahink Day Use Area. All runners ride a shuttle bus to their start. The event raises money for Siuslaw High School's cross country and track programs.

Crew rules
Crew are welcome at all aid stations and the finish area, but not at the start line. daybreakracing.com
Pacer rules
The event permit does not allow pacers. daybreakracing.com
Drop bag rules
One drop bag per runner, smaller than a 20L daypack, water resistant and made of durable material. Drop bags are available at the Tahkenitch Creek and Waxmyrtle aid stations. Tahkenitch Creek bags go in a drop location at morning check-in; bring Waxmyrtle bags with you to the race start line. Label the bag with first name, last name and bib number in large bold permanent writing. Bags are returned to the Start/Finish once the aid station shuts down after the race sweepers arrive. Pick up your bag after you finish; forgotten bags are not shipped or delivered. daybreakracing.com
Cutoff philosophy
Cutoffs exist for safety and to keep the race on its permitted schedule. A cutoff time is the time a runner must leave that aid station. daybreakracing.com

What it looks like out there

Somebody has been out there with a camera the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.

3 people have been out there with a camera or a microphone.

These are other people's work and we link straight to them. Watching costs nothing and needs no account. More of them: every race we hold, on film.

Ran this race? Tell the next runner what you know.

Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.

Leave blank if it applies to the whole race.

Leave blank if it is not about one particular stop.

Optional. Something like “Cal Street, mile 62 to 78”.

Write it the way you would say it to someone at the start line.

Optional, and it decides nothing. It only tells the next runner where this is coming from.

This changes nothing on the page on its own. Somebody checks it against the race first.

Somebody watches it before it goes anywhere near this page. What we are after is footage of this course, on the ground. If it would be just as true of any other race, it is not this.

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
