Free, and always will be. NavRun makes money from race-day planning for runners who want it, never from this.

The 50-mile course heads the same direction as the 100 and finishes at the Blackrock Pony Express station site, after a short 1.5 mile out-and-back near the finish. Finishers receive a medallion and there is a feast for runners and crews at Blackrock.
Remote desert dirt road with no aid stations along the way; crews carry everything. Runners share the road with recreational traffic hauling ATVs and are asked to keep left for the first 16 miles. The race provides no medical assistance along the course.
The race
What this one is
A 50 mile and 100 mile run on the dirt of the historic Pony Express Trail in western Utah, starting at Lookout Campground west of Faust. The course is remote and every runner needs a crew who drives along and leapfrogs them with food and water. It is run on 100% dirt road with about 3,000 feet of climbing, and the race is a good fit for first 50s and first 100s.
Getting in
Getting in
Entry, lottery and what the race asks of you before race day.
A crew is required for both the 50-mile and 100-mile race. You must have a crew or share a crew with another runner. Crews drive along and leapfrog the runner, stopping every few miles. No crewing from a moving vehicle. No crewing on the climb to Dugway Pass or at its top; crew on the west side of the pass. Runners sharing a crew must stay within four miles of each other.

Pacer rules
Anyone may join in at any point on the course, and pacers may use bikes. Pacers cannot drag or hold up the runner to the finish; runners must finish under their own power.

Drop bag rules
No drop bags of any sort on the course away from the crew.

Cutoff philosophy
There are cut-offs for the checkpoints but they are very generous. 50-milers must finish by 1 a.m. regardless of start time. Anyone in danger of missing that cut-off should start at 5:00 a.m.

the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.
Nobody has been out there with a camera or a microphone yet. A gap means nobody has found it, not that it is not out there. Seen a course preview or a film of this one? Send us the link.

Somebody watches it before it goes anywhere near this page. What we are after is footage of this course, on the ground. If it would be just as true of any other race, it is not this.

We want the address of the file the race publishes, not the file. We download it from there so the page can say where the line came from.

We read every one of these and we write back. Every fact here carries the source it came from, and the way a wrong one gets fixed is a person checking it against what you tell us.
Where this came from.
Every fact on this page records its source and when we last checked it: 53 sources for this race. Hover a source link to read the sentence it came from.
32% of what we track for a course is filled in. The rest says "not checked yet" rather than guessing.
Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.
Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.
No account, and nothing to cancel.
What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.
I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
