Yes, crew access is allowed on the Backyard Ultra course. Runners may set up a tent of 10x10 or smaller along Ann Street near the start/finish line. Tent spaces are chalk-marked and numbered; at bib pickup runners draw a number from a hat. Set-up 5:15-6:45 a.m.; the road is closed to runners at 6:45 a.m. and cars must be moved to the Manotick Mews or the Manotick Arena. No outside aid on the course during a lap; eliminated runners and non-competitors cannot be on the course. If the race runs into Monday morning, remaining tents move closer to the start/finish as businesses re-open.

Where it goes backyard

One 6.7 km loop every hour, on the hour, starting at 7:00 a.m. from the start corral on Ann Street by 692 Coffee & Bar. Runners must be in the corral at the bell; the time left in the hour is for resting, refuelling and hydrating. The last runner to complete a lap alone is the winner.

Each loop mixes road and trail: bridges over streams, parks and tarmac underfoot. The road is closed to traffic for runners from 6:45 a.m. Slower runners must let faster runners pass. The 2025 route was published as subject to change.

Every hour on the hour from 7:00 a.m. runners do one 6.7 km (4.167 mile) loop of road and trail through town, starting at 692 Coffee & Bar, and keep going until one person is left.
