Who's going to Leona Divide?

Free. You can start with nothing.

Free, and always will be. NavRun makes money from race-day planning for runners who want it, never from this. Ultras change constantly, sometimes the morning of. Always confirm with the race director and the official website before you rely on anything here.

Where it goes · 13 aid stations · rust marks a stop your crew can reach

The 100 Mile starts at 5:30 AM at the Lakes Community Center in Lake Hughes. It is a Western States 100 Mile qualifier. You cannot drop down to a shorter distance once the 100 Mile has started; a drop to a lesser distance has to happen before the start, and you then start at that distance's own start time.

Cell service is spotty at best and nonexistent in most areas. Poles are fine; be careful on singletrack.

The race

What this one is

Leona Divide runs on the Pacific Crest Trail out of the Lakes Community Center in Lake Hughes, California, on singletrack and fire road. The day has five distances, 30K, 50K, 50 Mile, 100K and 100 Mile, with staggered start times. The 100 Mile and 100K are Western States 100 Mile qualifiers.

Keira Henninger took over the historic Leona Divide in 2009. KH Races describes it as its founding event, a 30+ year-old Western States qualifier.

Crew rules
Crews are allowed only at the aid stations the guide lists, and only one car per crew. No crews at Bouquet Canyon or Lincoln Crest. Spunky Edison and Sawmill Road are hike-in only: no cars, and a car that drives into Spunky Edison gets its runner disqualified immediately. Cell service is spotty at best and nonexistent in most areas, so download offline maps. khraces.com
Pacer rules
Pacers do not need to pre-register and do not need a bib. Pacers can move with you through the aid stations where crews are not allowed; they just cannot meet you there. At San Fran Road a pacer can only join at the second pass (mile 68). khraces.com
Drop bag rules
Put your bib number on the outside of the bag. No coolers, glass or extra large bags or boxes. Close bags securely for transport. Race staff carry them to the aid stations. One bag per location, and you can leave one at the finish line. No valuables, including car keys. khraces.com
Cutoff philosophy
The race director says the cutoffs are fair, but they cater to someone who is trained for this race. khraces.com

What it looks like out there

Somebody has been out there with a camera the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.

2 people have been out there with a camera or a microphone.

These are other people's work and we link straight to them. Watching costs nothing and needs no account. More of them: every race we hold, on film.

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
