Course line from the race's own GPX. Source file. Year of this file not known.

A little under 16,000 feet of climbing across ridges and valleys in the Canadian Rockies, mostly single track. It follows the 50 mile route up Moose Mountain, then carries on to the Fullerton loop before returning to Paddy’s Flats.

The race

What this one is

Mountain races on the trails near Bragg Creek in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, run each August: a 100km, a 50 mile (also a 2 or 3 person relay), a 60km and a night-time 25km. The 50 mile, 60km and 100km start together at 6am from Paddy’s Flats Group Campground. The course climbs Powderface Ridge, Ford Knoll and Moose Mountain on single track, with views of the Canadian Rockies. Entry is capped at 200 runners.

For 2025 the start and finish moved from Station Flats to Paddy’s Flats Group Campground, because Alberta Parks was redeveloping the Station Flats day use area. The date moved from August 9 to August 16 that year to fit the campground booking.

Crew rules
Crew can meet runners at any aid station but not outside aid station areas. Aid stations 5 and 6 are only reached by walking about a mile from the upper Moose parking lot. A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is needed to park. ironlegs.ca
Pacer rules
Pacers are allowed starting at aid station 6. Runners can have one pacer at a time and pacers can switch at aid station 7. All pacers need to sign a waiver and pick up a bib at package pickup or the start/finish area. ironlegs.ca
Drop bag rules
Drop bags go to Elbow Aid Station 2, Powderface Aid Station 4 and Fullerton Aid Station 7. Drop them off at race check-in. ironlegs.ca
Cutoff philosophy
The cut-offs are for runner and volunteer safety. A runner who misses the Pneuma junction or Moose Packers cut-off is sent to the finish and ranked for the 60km. Racers who drop down in distance are still eligible for awards if they are in the top three. ironlegs.ca

What it looks like out there

Somebody has been out there with a camera the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.

Nobody has been out there with a camera or a microphone yet. A gap means nobody has found it, not that it is not out there. Seen a course preview or a film of this one? Send us the link.

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
