The race

What this one is

A trail race held on the trails of the privately owned Haliburton Forest and Wild Life Reserve in Ontario's Haliburton Highlands, starting and finishing at Base Camp. Distances run from a 12K to the signature Haliburton Forest 100 Miler, over heavily forested, hilly terrain with lakes and streams.

The first race was run in 1993. It was formerly known as Helen's Race. The 2020 edition was cancelled.

Crew rules
Crews may only meet or assist runners at designated aid stations and must follow the instructions of aid station personnel. A runner may be disqualified if crew meet or assist the runner away from an aid station. Crews must not park in a way that blocks traffic, trail access, aid stations or other cars. Crew access to certain aid stations may be restricted depending on weather and road conditions; this is finalized before the pre-race dinner and is not negotiable. Crews can reach Aid Station #2 since the road was widened in 2024. haliburtonforest100.org
Pacer rules
Pacers may accompany only 100 mile runners on foot, after 8:00 PM Saturday from any aid station or Base Camp (runners over 65 may have a pacer at any time). One pacer at a time. Pacers stay with their runner, may not carry supplies for the runner or give physical aid, and must sign a property waiver. Pacing by bicycle is not permitted. haliburtonforest100.org
Drop bag rules
One drop bag per aid station, at any or all of the four. Drop bags must be sealed, labelled with name and entry number, in plastic bags or dry sacs (no paper bags, hard boxes, coolers, glass, perishables or ice). Bags are deposited at the Boiler Room by 8:00 PM Friday and returned to the finish line, possibly as late as 3:00 PM Sunday. haliburtonforest100.org
Cutoff philosophy
There is a cut-off at the 75 mile mark: runners who have not reached Base Camp by 7:00 AM Sunday will not be allowed to continue, and at the discretion of race officials runners may not be allowed to embark on the final loop. All runners must be off the course by 3:00 PM Sunday. haliburtonforest100.org

What it looks like out there

Somebody has been out there with a camera the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.

Nobody has been out there with a camera or a microphone yet. A gap means nobody has found it, not that it is not out there. Seen a course preview or a film of this one? Send us the link.

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
