The course

Where it goes multi-loop · 2 aid stations

Participants run both the Morning 10K and the Sunset 10K on the same day, receiving separate official results for each, and are recognized as Double 10K finishers for completing both.

This is not a single continuous 20K route: it is the Morning 10K course (9:00 AM start) followed later the same day by the Sunset 10K course (5:30 PM start per the race's repeated prose; see the conflict noted on the Sunset 10K course and in _meta.notes) -- the same two routes a standalone Morning 10K or Sunset 10K runner would use. loop_distance_miles is left null because the two "loops" are different routes, not repeats of one lap (the same non-uniform-loop situation as the 50K, above). start_time here records only the first leg's start; the second leg's start (5:30 PM) is not separately modeled. time_limit_seconds is left null because the course spans two distinct starts rather than one elapsed clock; the course-wide 8:00 PM cutoff still applies (see cutoff_philosophy) and is recorded on the finish station below. No separate GPX file is published for the Double 10K -- it reuses the Morning 10K and Sunset 10K files recorded on those two courses.

The race

What this one is

A four-distance trail race (Morning 10K, Sunset 10K, Double 10K, and 50K) held entirely within the Virginia side of Breaks Interstate Park, a five-mile gorge cut by the Russell Fork River known locally as the "Grand Canyon of the South." All four distances start and finish at the same venue near Potter's Knoll. The 50K uses every trail on the Virginia side of the park.

Inaugural running is September 12, 2026. Founded by Southwest Virginia Running co-race-directors Melissa Londry and Alyx Barnett after Barnett, a competitive distance runner who had run the Arizona Grand Canyon's Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim for over a decade, moved to nearby Damascus, VA in 2023 and discovered Breaks Interstate Park in 2024. Following their Woodbooger 100 launch in Norton, the pair chose Breaks as the site of what they describe as SWVA Running's first 100-percent-singletrack, all-trail race experience. The organizer's stated intent is to expand the event in 2027 with additional distance options.

Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.

Leave blank if it applies to the whole race.

Leave blank if it is not about one particular stop.

Optional. Something like “Cal Street, mile 62 to 78”.

Write it the way you would say it to someone at the start line.

Optional, and it decides nothing. It only tells the next runner where this is coming from.

We read every one of these and we write back. Every fact here carries the source it came from, and the way a wrong one gets fixed is a person checking it against what you tell us.
