A single out-and-back from Open Space Brewing through Fort Bayard and the Fort Bayard trail network, onto the Continental Divide Trail, to a turnaround at Sapillo Campground, then back to the start. It starts at the same time as the 100 mile and shares the same cutoff of 6:00 PM Sunday.
Single track trails, rocky and rolling jeep trails and dirt roads, with long climbs onto the Continental Divide Trail. The race says the area can reach the 80s in the day and fall below freezing at night in October, with rain, wind and snow possible. Cell service is spotty and absent in most canyon bottoms.
The Gila 100 and Gila 50 are out-and-back trail races in the Gila National Forest in southwest New Mexico. Both start at Open Space Brewing in Santa Clara near Fort Bayard, climb through the Fort Bayard trail network onto the Continental Divide Trail and turn around at Sapillo Campground. The 50 mile is that out-and-back once; the 100 mile is the same out-and-back twice. Both courses close 36 hours after the 6:00 AM start.
The 2026 race is the third annual Gila 100 and 50.

Nobody has been out there with a camera or a microphone yet. A gap means nobody has found it, not that it is not out there. Seen a course preview or a film of this one? Send us the link.
Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.
This changes nothing on the page on its own. Somebody checks it against the race first.
Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.
Somebody watches it before it goes anywhere near this page. What we are after is footage of this course, on the ground. If it would be just as true of any other race, it is not this.
We want the address of the file the race publishes, not the file. We download it from there so the page can say where the line came from.
We read every one of these and we write back. Every fact here carries the source it came from, and the way a wrong one gets fixed is a person checking it against what you tell us.
Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.
No account, and nothing to cancel.
What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.
I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
