The course

Where it goes multi-loop · 24 aid stations · rust marks a stop your crew can reach

Three loops from Camp Manidokan onto the C&O Canal towpath, running between Antietam and Brunswick, Maryland. The first loop adds an out and back to a north turnaround that has check-in only. Loops two and three skip it.

Almost entirely flat. The towpath is packed dirt with small gravel rocks that wear on your feet as the race goes on, so the race advises alternate shoes in your drop bags. Mostly shaded, with a few stretches of prolonged sun.

The race

What this one is

A 100 mile race on the C&O Canal towpath in Maryland, run as three loops from Camp Manidokan near Knoxville on the last weekend of April. The towpath is almost entirely flat packed dirt, and the race welcomes first-time 100 milers as well as runners chasing a fast time.

The course dates to 2012, when another planned 100 mile race had to switch at the last minute to what is now the C&O Canal 100 route. The first official race was held April 27-28, 2013.

Crew rules
Crews can meet runners only at the Brunswick aid station (park in the MARC train lot) and at Camp Manidokan. At any other aid station a crew can drop off or pick up a pacer, or pick up a runner who has dropped, but may not park. A crew seen helping a runner anywhere else puts that runner at risk of disqualification. cocanal100.com
Pacer rules
Pacers may join after the second pass through Brunswick (mile 59.6), one at a time, on foot only. No bike pacing. Pacers may not carry water, food or gear for their runner, and may not have drop bags. cocanal100.com
Drop bag rules
One drop bag each at Brunswick and Manidokan, and no other aid station. Brunswick bags must be no larger than 6 x 8 x 16 inches or they are turned away. Manidokan bags have no size limit. cocanal100.com

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
