Who's going to Bogong to Hotham Rooftop Run?

Free. You can start with nothing.

Free, and always will be. NavRun makes money from race-day planning for runners who want it, never from this. Ultras change constantly, sometimes the morning of. Always confirm with the race director and the official website before you rely on anything here.

The full Rooftop Run. The 35km race is the first 35km of the 64km; the 29km race is the last 29km and starts at Langford Gap, so it is a different start and is not filed here.

One of the toughest mile for mile runs in the country. Requires very good shape and some ultra experience. Unmarked, weather can change quickly in the Alps (white-out possible in January), large sections have poor emergency vehicle access, and mobile coverage is poor over much of the course. Compulsory gear is checked and the heavy kit must be available race day.

The race

What this one is

Unmarked alpine point-to-point across the Victorian high country. Runners start at Mountain Creek Campground, climb Mt Bogong, descend T Spur to Big River, climb Duane Spur to the Bogong High Plains, pass Langford Gap, drop to the Cobungra River and climb Swindler's Spur to the finish at the Mt Hotham summit. Run by Trailsplus.

The 2026 runner guide says the event stems back to 1984. The race site calls the January 2027 edition the 36th running.

Pacer rules
not checked yet
Drop bag rules
Drop bags go to Langford Gap (35km), Omeo Road-Bogong High Plains Road (41km) and the Mt Hotham summit finish (64km). Maximum size is a Coles-type supermarket zipper bag. Drop bags that stay with the organisers are collected Sunday 10am to 1pm at Rocky Valley Cafe, Tawonga South. bogong2hotham.com.au
Cutoff philosophy
Two start times. The 5am start is for slower runners and gets a 15 hour limit to 8pm; the 7am start keeps the traditional 12 hour limit. Fast runners must take the 7am start: radio check points are not ready for early arrivals and holds runners until the next point is set up. Mt Bogong summit has a send-back rule: 5am starters arriving later than 3.5 hours and 7am starters later than 2.5 hours are returned to the start. bogong2hotham.com.au

What it looks like out there

Somebody has been out there with a camera the tables say the climb is long. these say what long feels like.

Nobody has been out there with a camera or a microphone yet. A gap means nobody has found it, not that it is not out there. Seen a course preview or a film of this one? Send us the link.

Nobody sees it until we have read it. No account, no sign-in.

Leave blank if it applies to the whole race.

Leave blank if it is not about one particular stop.

Optional. Something like “Cal Street, mile 62 to 78”.

Write it the way you would say it to someone at the start line.

Optional, and it decides nothing. It only tells the next runner where this is coming from.

This changes nothing on the page on its own. Somebody checks it against the race first.

Optional. Filled in for you when you start from a specific line on the page.

We read every one of these and we write back. Every fact here carries the source it came from, and the way a wrong one gets fixed is a person checking it against what you tell us.

Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.

Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.

No account, and nothing to cancel.

What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.

I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
