Next edition. The 2026 edition (most recently completed) sold out; per RunFluent's Facebook page, "2026 Big Deal at Great Seal is SOLD OUT!" (posted Apr 16, 2026). Registration for 2027 is open as of this research (Aug 2026), with no indication of a lottery or waitlist.
Free, and always will be. NavRun makes money from race-day planning for runners who want it, never from this.

The course
Where it goes
multi-loop · 26 aid stations
Five laps of the same 20-mile loop used by the 100K and 20 Miler, starting and finishing at the Ireland Shelter. About 95% singletrack; the first lap includes the Sugarloaf Mountain climb, which later laps bypass.
RD-published elevation gain is per loop, not per course, and is a range rather than a single figure: "roughly 3200 feet of elevation gain per loop" in the course description, revised elsewhere on the same page to "3100-3200 feet per loop" after a course tweak (removal of the Shrake Road section). The first of the five laps includes the Sugarloaf Mt climb; laps 2-5 bypass it, so per-lap and course-total elevation are not uniform across the day.
The race
What this one is
A trail race at Great Seal State Park outside Chillicothe, Ohio, on a hilly 20-mile loop that is roughly 95% singletrack. As of the 2026-2027 cycle it offers four distances built on repeats of that loop: 100 Mile (5 laps), 100K (3 laps plus a 2-mile finishing loop), 20 Miler (1 lap) and a 5K on a separate short loop. Earlier editions (2023-2025) were run as 50K/25K/5K instead.
RD Chris Stangle ran his first ultra in Great Seal State Park and later became the first person to host an ultra there in several years, after a long gap with no ultras in the park at all. He trained in the park daily before moving to Florida, and had his first date with his now-wife and co-RD, Ivi Stangle, there. The race has run each year since 2023 (per UltraSignup's published results history: 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026). It began as a 50K/25K/5K event; the 2026 and 2027 editions switched to a 100 Mile / 100K / 20 Miler / 5K format, the 100-mile distance having been part of Chris Stangle's plan for the race from early on.

Cutoff philosophy
The race allows 36 hours in total to finish (an average pace of 21:36 per mile), and requires starting the final (5th) lap within 28 hours of the start (21:00 per mile average to that point). The RD states no other distance run at this race carries a published cutoff, and notes that decisions to allow a runner to continue are at the RD's discretion.

This changes nothing on the page on its own. Somebody checks it against the race first.
Seen a course preview or a film of this one? Send it over.
Somebody watches it before it goes anywhere near this page. What we are after is footage of this course, on the ground. If it would be just as true of any other race, it is not this.
Have the GPX? Send us the link.
We want the address of the file the race publishes, not the file. We download it from there so the page can say where the line came from.

We read every one of these and we write back. Every fact here carries the source it came from, and the way a wrong one gets fixed is a person checking it against what you tell us.
Where this came from.
Every fact on this page records its source and when we last checked it: 306 sources for this race. Hover a source link to read the sentence it came from.
41% of what we track for a course is filled in. The rest says "not checked yet" rather than guessing.
Ultras change. We will tell you when this one does.
Cutoffs move, races get postponed, lotteries open and close. We read the race's own sources and record where every fact came from. Put your email in and we will send you what changed, and where we read it.
No account, and nothing to cancel.
What happens to your email. Nothing else. I do not sell it, and I will not send you anything except this race changing. One click gets you out.
I keep this catalog because the information is scattered and hard to trust. Telling you when it moves is the same job.
