Course line from the race's own GPX. Source file.

A single-loop, non-stop 200.4-mile circumnavigation of Lake Tahoe on the Tahoe Rim Trail, starting and finishing at Heavenly Stagecoach Lodge in Stateline, Nevada. The route occasionally detours off the TRT through aspen meadows, granite rock gardens, small alpine lakes, forest and long ridgelines. It crosses repeatedly between California and Nevada as it circles the lake basin; the manual's emergency-contact list spans El Dorado, Nevada and Placer counties in California and Douglas and Washoe counties in Nevada. "Returned to the original full loop course" for 2026 and 2027 after prior editions used a different course configuration (see _meta.notes).

The race

What this one is

A single-loop, non-stop 200.4-mile trail run circumnavigating Lake Tahoe on the Tahoe Rim Trail, starting and finishing at Heavenly Stagecoach Lodge in Stateline, Nevada, and crossing repeatedly into California as it circles the lake. Billed by its organizer as the first point-to-point/single-loop 200-mile ultramarathon course in the United States. A 105-hour (4 day, 9 hour) cutoff, 12 full aid stations including 3 sleep stations, and pacers permitted from mile 87.6 onward.

Founded by Candice Burt, who "created the first point-to-point and single-loop 200-mile ultramarathons in the United States in 2013" (About page). Destination Trail's own Race Director, Garrett Froelich, dates his own involvement to "2014 when he helped at the inaugural Tahoe 200", and UltraSignup's results archive for this event begins in 2014 (see _meta.notes for this conflict). The course has changed format over the race's history: after running a different (non full-loop) configuration in some recent years, "the original full loop course is back starting in 2026 and will be used in 2027 and beyond."

Crew rules
Crews are permitted only at aid stations designated for crew access, and only within 30 minutes of their runner's estimated arrival via live tracking; crew must leave once their runner leaves. Only one crew vehicle per runner is allowed, no exceptions; the vehicle must fit in a single standard parking space (no longer than 20 ft, no wider than 8.5 ft) — no traditional RVs, no trailers. Each crew vehicle must display a Tahoe 200 Crew Vehicle Access Pass, issued at check-in. Crew may not camp overnight at an aid station, must supply their own food (aid station food is reserved for runners, active pacers and volunteers), and must follow Leave No Trace. Crew contact with a runner is permitted only at crew-access aid stations; contact after a station's cutoff time, or contact between aid stations (other than for a DNF), gives the runner a DNF or DQ. A runner is 100% responsible for their crew's and pacers' conduct. docs.google.com
Pacer rules
Pacers may join starting at the Loon Lake aid station (mile 87.6) and may accompany a runner from any crew-access aid station onward, with pacer exchanges only at crew-access aid stations. Only one pacer at a time. Pacers must wear a Pacer Bib (issued at check-in or at an aid station), must carry the full mandatory gear list themselves, and may not mule food, water or gear for their runner except in a genuine emergency (which disqualifies the runner). Pacers are for safety and company, not competitive advantage. A runner may not abandon a pacer who cannot keep up; the runner must stay with the pacer to the next aid station. docs.google.com
Drop bag rules
Drop bags are optional; a runner may use them at some, all or none of the aid stations. Maximum size 16"x24"x14"; no coolers, plastic bins, or other lidded containers; bags should be re-closeable and sturdy. Bags must be labeled with the runner's full name, bib number and aid station name(s). Drop-off is at runner check-in (Sunday 1:00-5:00pm, with a same-day-as-race window 6:00-8:30am for a small number of remaining bags). Unclaimed bags must be picked up by 10:00am the Saturday after the race (June 26, 2027) or are donated to charity; Destination Trail is not responsible for loss, damage or delayed delivery. docs.google.com
Cutoff philosophy
This is a non-stop event: once the run starts, the clock runs continuously for 105 hours (4 days, 9 hours). Runners must leave each aid station before its designated cutoff to continue. The Runner Manual is explicit that a DNF is given for "Missing an Aid Station cut off time (not leaving station before the cut off time)" or "Arriving at an aid station AT the cut off time." A runner who leaves the final aid station on time but finishes after the overall cutoff gets an "unofficial finish": a finisher print but no buckle. docs.google.com
