Course line from the race's own GPX. Source file.

Point-to-point on the Ozark Trail from a remote trailhead at CR 862 & FR 2309 in Reynolds County, MO to Bass River Resort near Steelville. Other than the first ~3.5 miles of forest road at the start and the final mile through Bass River Resort, the entire course follows the Ozark Trail itself, marked only by the trail's own permanent OT markers.

"The race is mostly on single track trail with several water crossings and approximately 12,000 feet of elevation gain. The trail surface varies from smooth dirt trail to moderately technical trail with lots of leaves covering the trail." A 2009 finisher's account (GoBroncoBilly blog) called it "Trail by Braille" for how the fallen leaves obscure the tread. Note: the site's own prose gives the distance as 101 miles while its own aid-station chart's Finish row reads 100.9 miles into race; both figures are recorded on this course (published_distance_value / distance_miles) rather than forced to agree.

The race

What this one is

A point-to-point 101-mile ultramarathon on the Ozark Trail through the Mark Twain National Forest in south-central Missouri, mostly single-track with several water crossings and about 12,000 feet of elevation gain. Starts at CR 862 & FR 2309 in Reynolds County and finishes at Bass River Resort near Steelville.

Founded in 2009 as a first-year hundred by co-race-directors Stuart Johnson and Paul Schoenlaub. The 2026 edition is the race's 18th running and has been selected as the 2026 Missouri RRCA State Ultra Championship race. The event date has moved around from year to year (early November in the 2010s, October 25 in 2025, October 31 in 2026).

Crew rules
"Crew members must maintain a minimum distance of at least 10 feet from all aid stations... Only runners will be allowed to approach the aid station tables. Runners' crews are not allowed on the race course. Runners receiving aid from crews outside the designated crew access points are subject to disqualification... it is absolutely forbidden to receive aid at road crossings unless designated as a crew access aid station." Crews must park on one side of the road only at crew-access aid stations and at the start. At Brooks Creek and Henpeck Hollow specifically, no crew vehicles may drive past the aid station to turn around or park. Only 6 of the 15 stations (Start, Sutton Bluff, Brooks Creek, Hazel Creek, Berryman Campground, Henpeck Hollow, Finish) allow any crew access at all. ozarktrail100.com
Pacer rules
"Runners may have a pacer beginning at the Brooks Creek Aid Station" (mile 40). Runners 60 and older may use a pacer from the start with advance notice to the RD. "Runners are allowed to have only one pacer at a time. The only exception to this rule is that runners are allowed to have as many pacers as they would like from the point where they cross the Courtois Creek, just after entering the Bass River Resort, to the finish line." No bicycle or equestrian pacing anywhere on the course; the race does not provide pacers or shuttle services for them. ozarktrail100.com
Drop bag rules
Drop bags must be delivered to the designated area at Bass River Resort on Friday, October 30, 2026 between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm; none may be left the morning of the race. "A good rule of thumb is to try to limit your drop bags to a 1 1/2 gallon (breadbox size) or smaller sized container." One bag per aid station, delivered to the location designated for that aid station; bags are not transported between stations. Bags are returned to the finish line area no later than 2:00 pm Sunday and must be picked up by 4:00 pm Sunday, or by special arrangement for a $50 handling fee plus postage. ozarktrail100.com
Cutoff philosophy
"Each runner is allowed to set his or her own pace as long as he or she is out of the aid station by the cut-off time for that aid station... In the event a runner does not leave an aid station by the stated cut-off time, the runner will be pulled from the race." The first two cutoffs (Sutton Bluff, Stillwell Hollow) are recommend-only: runners are not pulled for missing them, but the race directors may pull a runner who leaves more than 45 minutes past the recommended time and has no hope of making the hard cutoff at Johnson Hollow. All other cutoffs are strictly enforced. Belt buckles go to all finishers inside the 32-hour overall time limit. ozarktrail100.com
