The Bear 100 Mile Endurance Run

2026 Bear 100 Mile Endurance Run
Waitlist only
The 300 general lottery-pool spots were drawn Dec 27, 2025 (lottery window Nov 15 - Dec 15, 2025) and an active waitlist of up to 300 is now tracked on UltraSignup; the race committee reported clearing the entire waitlist in 2025. Separately, the course itself changed for 2026: the finish moved from Fish Haven, ID to Conestoga Ranch in Garden City, UT, about 25% of the route was altered, and the race now lies entirely within Utah. See the race and course records for the reroute detail.

Course line from the race's own GPX. Source file.

Point-to-point 100-mile course from Hyrum Gibbons/Mount Logan Park in Logan, Utah to Conestoga Ranch in Garden City, Utah (new for 2026; previously finished at Fish Haven, Idaho). About 65% singletrack, 34% dirt double-track and 1.5% pavement, with around 20,321 feet of climb. Cupless race: runners must carry their own hydration vessel.

Homepage stats: 100 Miles, 20,321' of climb, Max Elevation 8,865', Min Elevation 4,853', Avg Elevation 7,251'. The Information page separately describes the elevation range in rounder terms, 'around 5,000 feet to 9,200 feet' -- that appears to be an older, unrevised summary; the homepage stat block is more specific and is dated to the 2026 aid-station sheet, so it is treated as the primary figure here. No mandatory gear list: 'We will not require mandatory gear. Use your best judgement to bring enough to make sure you are safe/warm.'

The race

What this one is

A 100-mile point-to-point trail race through the Bear River Range, starting at Hyrum Gibbons/Mount Logan Park in Logan, Utah. For the 2026 edition the course was rerouted so it finishes at Conestoga Ranch in Garden City, Utah, and the entire route now lies within Utah; in earlier years it finished across the state line at Fish Haven, Idaho. About 20,321 feet of climbing, run in late September for the fall color and cooler weather, with a 36-hour time limit.

First run in 1999. The name honors Old Ephraim, a grizzly bear that once roamed the Wasatch-Cache and Caribou National Forests; his gravesite sits a few miles off the course, and the race's overall winners are crowned 'King and Queen of the BEAR 100' in his honor. It is the closing race of the informal Rocky Mountain Slam (with Hardrock, Leadville and Wasatch, among others, as the other qualifying races). The course has been modified twice for winter conditions since 1999, including a same-week reroute in 2006. For 2026 about 25% of the route was changed: the finish moved from Fish Haven, Idaho, to a new venue at Conestoga Ranch in Garden City, Utah, Logan Peak aid was moved and the early miles swapped from the South Syncline to the North Syncline trail, Franklin Basin aid moved to a larger roadside site, and Gibson Basin, Beaver Creek and Ranger Dip aid stations were replaced by new Peter Sinks and Burnt Fork aid stations plus a water stop between them.

Crew rules
Crew includes family, friends, pacers, helpers, supporters and photographers. One crew vehicle per runner at every accessible aid station (finish is the exception: all are welcome, no vehicle limit). Crews may access Leatham Hollow (mi 20), one of Right Hand Fork/RHF or Temple Fork only (by pre-race survey pick, mi 37.5/45.5), Tony Grove (mi 52), Franklin Basin (mi 62), Beaver Mountain (mi 76.5), Burnt Fork (mi 92) and the finish. A non-transferrable crew parking pass, handed out at bib pickup, is mandatory at every accessible aid station except the finish; picking the RHF pass voids access to Temple Fork and vice versa. No rental RVs; large vehicles struggle badly at RHF, Temple Fork and Tony Grove. No cell coverage in the canyon -- download aid station locations before race day. bear100.com
Pacer rules
Pacers allowed from Right Hand Fork (mile 37.5) to the finish; runners over age 60 may have a pacer from start to finish if they notify the RD at the start. Only one pacer at a time except the final mile, where there is no limit. Pacers may not carry food, water or equipment for their runner (muling) and may not vehicle- or bike-pace. Pacer swaps are only allowed at crew-accessible aid stations; swapping elsewhere risks disqualification. One pacer bib is issued per runner at bib pickup. bear100.com
Drop bag rules
Drop bags must be dropped off at the start line (Hyrum Gibbons Park) between 3:30 and 6:00 PM the Thursday before the race; the Aid Captains collect them at 6:30 PM, so late bags miss the transport window entirely. See the aid station chart for which stations receive drop bags. All bags up to and including Beaver Mtn. Lodge are combined and trucked to the finish once Beaver Mtn aid closes (11 AM Saturday), arriving at the finish around noon; bags from later stations arrive with that station's teardown. Unclaimed bags after the race go to a committee member's house; runners can arrange shipping at their own cost, and anything left after a week is donated. bear100.com
Cutoff philosophy
The official aid-station sheet publishes the men's and women's course-record splits alongside typical sub-24, sub-30 and sub-36 hour pace splits at every checkpoint, so a runner can see exactly where they stand against the clock rather than guess. Anyone who finishes within 36 hours earns a buckle; the race calls everyone who hasn't yet done that a member in good standing of the 'Black and Blue Cub,' until they do. bear100.com
